Rucha Kale

(she/they)

Design Researcher & Strategist   .   Visual Designer   .   Entrepreneur

Over the past decade, Rucha has built a practice at the intersection of design (apparel, visual & communication), business, and product development. Her work begins by questioning assumptions, understanding complex systems, and creating solutions that are thoughtful, equitable, and grounded in real-world impact.

At nineteen, Rucha became the first woman in her family to start a business. She went on to build an education company that reached more than 200,000 students before co-founding a design studio serving organizations across India, the United States, and Canada. Her work has been recognized with a Mayor Innovation Award, and she was invited to judge a business plan competition at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM).

Rucha holds a Master's in Industrial Design from Rhode Island School of Design and was a cross-registered student at Brown University, where she studied entrepreneurship, cultural anthropology, and public health equity. Her practice explores how culture, policy, and institutions shape which problems receive attention and which remain invisible. Her thesis developed a certification framework for menstrual equity, built around six measurable dimensions (access, education, infrastructure, policy, culture, and inclusion) to help institutions evaluate and strengthen their commitment to equity.

Rucha's work is driven by questioning what we accept as default. She investigates the assumptions and systems that shape everyday life, asking who they serve, who they exclude, and what they make invisible. She believes design is most valuable not when it simply solves problems, but when it helps redefine them, bringing overlooked perspectives into the conversation and creating more equitable systems, services, and institutions.
